Super School is a series of after-school classes which challenge and entertain students. Classes are $66.00 for each 6-week session.

Our Super School instructors are experts at making their courses exciting and fresh. By the end of the course, students are amazed at how much they’ve learned while having so much fun!

Your children’s safety is a priority with us! We escort all kindergartners to Super School from their classes at dismissal. First graders are collected on the playground and then escorted to class.

Parents who enroll their children in Super School and the Homework Club have found the combination to be a creative, structured, and economical alternative to after-school care.

Super School fees cover instructor salaries, and program costs. P.F.R.D. (Parents for Riverside Drive), a non-profit volunteer organization, oversees the Super School program.

Super School is directed by Tekla Wright. Volunteer Sharona Nehoray provides kinder-escort and attendance services.

Financial aid scholarships (equivalent to 25% of the total Super School enrollment) are available. Student families in need of a free class should complete an application and check the box to request a Financial Aid Form.

Super School FAQ

How do I enroll my child in Super School?
Applications are available in the Main Office and online. Fill one out, attach a check and turn it in at the office or HWC bungalow.
May I pay by credit card in the Homework Club bungalows?
Yes. Mastercard, Visa, Discover, Amex. Mornings from 7 am-7:50, or after school.
How many classes may my child take in a session?
From one day, to one per day (5). You choose.
What time do the classes start? How long are the classes?
Super School classes always start about 5 minutes after dismissal — whether dismissal is at 2:20, 1:25 or 12:30. They are 60 minutes in length.
After the 6-week session, may my child continue his/her class?
During the first session, there will be a form online available for download entitled RENEW MY CLASS. Print this form and turn it in with a check on week 6 of your current session; your child may continue going to class each week, without interruption, for another 6 weeks, and so on.
May my kindergartener participate?
Yes. Read the class selection carefully and you will see that there are many classes geared to Kinder and First, and also classes open to All Grades.
How does my kindergartener get to the Super School class?
Your kinder will be escorted from the Kinder Yard to his/her Super School class every time. Children who attend the HWC or E3 will be picked up after class by program staff — so, please let your program know when your child is participating in Super School.
How does my first grader get to the Super School class?
We recommend that your First Grader go directly to the kinder yard on Super School days (at least for the first class!) We are happy to escort them as well. If a 1st grader forgets to go to class, our SS attendant will find him/her on the playground (immediately) and escort him/her to class. Be sure to call (818) 990-0867 and leave a message on days that you KNOW your child will miss his/her SS class.
What if my second grader forgets to go to Super School?
We cannot look for and remind all students, so we cut it off after 1st grade. However, we do circulate through the playground area and remind and round up kids as much as possible. YOU can be a big help here: Please remind your child in the morning by saying something like: “Don’t forget you have Chess (or Dance or Cooking) today! Go right away after school.”
Who are the instructors?
We have the greatest instructors, that’s all! They are all experts in their fields and have years of experience working with children. Our instructors are fingerprinted, screened, tb tested, and trained in the SS philosophy of safety, fun learning. Some of our instructors are even bonded and insured on their own. All are insured by PFRD and cleared by LAUSD.
What if my child doesn’t like his/her class?
Be careful — allowing your child to drop out of a class right away is not always the right choice — some children need more than one class to feel comfortable. However, 90% of the time, it’s love at first class. So, if that doesn’t happen, please leave a message at (818) 990-0867 and we will call you. We prefer to transfer your child to another class that he/she might like to take, but refunds are available (for classes not attended.)
What if it rains?
Classes held ON THE PLAYGROUND or in the AUDITORIUM are cancelled on rainy days. Make-ups are scheduled for the end of a session. Our no-brainer, rain policy is: IF IT’S RAINING AT 12:00 NOON, CLASSES ARE CANCELLED. IF IT’S CLOUDY BUT NOT RAINING AT NOON, CLASSES WILL GO ON.
What if my child is sick?
Please call and leave a message at (818) 990-0867 if your child is sick and will not attend Super School class. We regret that we cannot give credit for missed classes, but in the event that an illness causes a child to miss multiple classes, we want to hear from you.
What if my child has allergies or special needs?
While you may want to think twice about Cooking class for a child with a lot of food allergies, we will allow anyone to participate. Your application form has space for allergies/illnesses/special needs — please fill it in carefully. All instructors are informed of medical and other special conditions listed on your application.
