GOVERNANCE COUNCIL ELECTIONS
WHEN:  Friday, April 29 @ 4p (Candidate Statements Due)
Friday, May 6 @ Pep Rally (Elections)

PARENTS, WE NEED YOU!!

This is a call for parent candidates for the 2016-2017 RDCS Governance Council.  There are three (3) open parent positions on the board as well as positions for two (2) parent alternates.

As a Governance Council Board Member, you are a part of the decision-making of major programs initiated into the school.  The Council is made up of 6 school staff members and 6 parents.

Without the Governance Board, there is no Governance, no Charter.  We need new energy, new voices and people who care about the success of our students to be a part of the team.  We need more parent representation.  WE NEED YOU!!

Here are the criteria:
•You must write no more than a 120-word statement to run for a position
•You must be available to serve a 2-year term beginning with the 2016-2017 school year
•You must have a child enrolled at RDCS for the length of your term
•You must be available to attend monthly Governance meetings held every 2nd Wednesday of the month from 3pm to 5pm on campus (Just 2 hours per month!)

WHAT IS A PARENT REPRESENTATIVE?
A Parent Representative is one of 6 parents who represent the perspective of all parents on the Governance Council. They are elected by the parents of RDCS students. Together with 6 teachers and staff members, they vote on requests brought before the Governance Council.   Alternates are also needed in the event of an absence of another parent representative.

TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON – WEDNESDAY, MAY 11th

For many years, the Staff Appreciation Committee has provided a luncheon for the teachers and staff of our school to acknowledge their dedication in educating our children as well as ensuring their safety and well-being.  This year, the luncheon will be on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016, in the Literacy Garden and we would like to serve cuisine that represents the cultural diversity of our school.

As you know, the success of this luncheon depends solely on generous donations and participation from our RDCS parents.  This year we are asking families to prepare traditional dishes that identify the country/region that they are from to share with our teachers and staff.  Food donation drop-off will be on May 11th, starting at 8:00AM in the Parent Center.  We also ask for volunteers for the following:

• Receive Food Donations and Set Up from 8:00AM – 10:00AM
• Serve Food from 10:00AM – 12:00PM
• Serve Food and Clean Up from 12:00PM – 2:30PM
Please email anelim_m@yahoo.com to let the committee know what type of dish you would like to contribute and/or the time you are available to help.  Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on May 11th.
